The Dream (2020)
Documentary
The documentary THE DREAM reflects the life story of Mrs. Julia Hlinka, who emigrated to the USA at the turn of the 60s.
In particular, THE DREAM captures the will to adapt and start a new life in different country despite many difficulties. Julia was able to replant her penetrating roots in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. With humility and respect.
Granddaughter Helena, a native American, combines the “old world” with the “new world” in the gastronomic spirit in their own Slovak-American restaurant, which is a favorite place of many newyorkers.
,,Veronika Koniarová’s film “DREAM” is a portrait of a person, a strong woman who went a long 90-year journey from East to West. “Baba”, as her friends and family call her, keeps the flame from her birthplace, watering and caring for it as if it was her rare flower. The relationship with daughters and granddaughters is revealed gradually, the director reveals it in each new scene and gives it a magnificent but non-pathetic dimension. I would also suggest the film as a material for educating young people in our schools, because if I called something a traditional family, it would definitely be the family around Baba.”

Project Charon (2018 / 2022)
Two films, one extraordinary protagonist!
2018 – A portrait of the controversial taxi driver Janko and his days balanced by joys and sorrows.
2022 – The documentary film CHARON (my diploma film) takes place during one night and reflects the current problems, joys and phenomena of today’s young generation through Janko’s customers.
He is a single man in his fifties, a multidimensional figure from Košice, reminiscent of Charon from greek mythology – the ferryman of dead souls to the underworld. Does today’s world and the problems of (not only) young people represent a kind of underworld directly on earth?
